have always believed that the regular season champion of a conference should get the autobid. That’s the most deserving team and they proved it all season long. I understand the conference tournament argument, it gives teams a reason to keep trying the entire season, but when one team gets hot and it causes the league’s team with an actual opportunity to win a an NCAA tournament game or two to miss out I think it basically degrades the meaning of the regular season
I get why they do the tourneys
Especially today
But maybe they should cap the tourneys, maybe the top 4 teams?
Top 5 so the regular season winner gets a bye?
Maybe 3 with the regular season winner already in the tittle?

Few things, Murray is not that good at all this year, and Belmont actually lost to Samford not Murray. Also Gonzaga may play in a mid major conference but they are no means a mid major anymore

The NCAA just announced that they are leaving it up to the conferences whether or not the regular season champion or the conference tournament champion represents their conference in the NCAA? If that’s the case, i would suspect that many of the mid majors will take their regular season champ. One could argue that the conference tournament champion auto-bid into the NCAA tournament has hurt the mid majors success in the NCAA tournament. Nothing like a deserving (27-5) regular season conference champion losing to a (15-17) team that got hot for a few games.

This is how it always should be. It makes me ill when some team dominates their league’s regular season only to have some team that went 5-13 in league play with nothing to lose go scorching hot from 3 in a high pressure single elimination tournament and bounce the league favorite.

Louisiana Tech won three straight conference championships and was ranked in the top 25 two of those years and didn’t make a single ncaa tournament because of BS like that.
If I remember correctly, Iona had something similar happen to them around the same time.

Iona has actually been the beneficiary. They are usually the team that didn’t win the MAAC and bounces other teams that did.
I understand why these conferences do it though - if they have an at-large worthy candidate, then playing a conference tournament raises the leagues odds of getting two bids if the at large candidate loses in the conference tournament.
The problem is that most of the time, these teams don’t lose in their conference tournament. And for many of these leagues, its very rare to have an at-large worthy team.

They’ve been to a national title game, have multiple Final Fours and have made the tournament like 24 years in a row or something like that. Anybody know anything about Wright St? They’ve won like 10+ games in a row. Seems like a team I wouldn’t want to play. Of all years, I think you could see multiple mid majors make the Elite 8.

The 2020 Super Bowl just wrapped up, yet that doesn’t mean football season is over. On Saturday, February 8th, the XFL will return after 19 years. This season features eight teams from around the country competing for the championship, which takes place in April. Today, I’m going to look at why this new league is starting, and talk about some of the important rule differences between the XFL and the NFL.

This is the second time the XFL has attempted to break into the mainstream sports world. The first time around, things didn’t exactly go as planned.
*This rule does just that. The play clock in the XFL is only 25 seconds compared to the 40 second play clock that the NFL has established. This leaves less time for teams to huddle up and more time playing football. The XFL also has what they call a “Comeback Period”. This occurs after the two-minute warning in each half.

By 2001, these two companies launched the XFL. The first game took place on February 3rd of that year and understandably, the public was interested as to what would unfold. NBC aired the game and incorporated several wrestling-like elements suggested by the WWE.
As the season progressed, viewership numbers dropped. The connection to professional wrestling resulted in bad press and some felt the entertainment-heavy style was a little too over the top.
By the time the championship game came around, it was clear this experiment was a failure.
Looking back, the rule differences between the XFL and NFL may be partly to blame for the league’s collapse. It was confusing for many fans to understand why these changes were made.
After 19 years, it seems that Vince McMahan still sees potential in the XFL. The 2020 XFL season kicks off this Saturday and once again, fans are eager to see what takes place. To help make things easier for fans, we’re going to explain some of the major rule differences you’re going to see this weekend.Rule #1: Points After Touchdowns
In the NFL, a touchdown grants a team six points. Fortunately, this is the case with the XFL, as well. The league owners seem to recognize that this needs to stay the same. As a way to prevent overtime, however, the XFL has a major difference in the way teams earn points after scoring a touchdown.
In this league, the extra point kick will be replaced with a short scrimmage play. You can think of it as a required 2-point conversion, with some differences. Teams can choose to score from the 2-yard goal line for one point, a score from 5 yards ears two points, and a score from the 10-yard line earns 3 points.
This is one of the rule differences between the XFL and NFL that fans from 2001 will remember. The league decided to keep this rule in place, despite some of the backlash that it faced from fans 19 years ago.
Kickers may not find life in the XFL quite as exciting as it is over in the NFL. The linemen will certainly have their work cut out, though.Rule # 2: Kickoff and Punt Formations
Punting is extremely common in the NFL. When a team is unable to move down the field and hits fourth down, it’s almost guaranteed they’re kicking the ball away. For reasons unknown, the XFL wants to discourage players from punting at all.
In this league, players cannot begin running down the field until the punt has been caught. Gunners are not allowed here. The coffin corner punt will be treated as a touchback and dropped on the 35-yard line. The goal is to push teams to look for fourth-down conversions as much as possible.
There are some major changes for kickoffs, too. The XFL wants kickoffs to be an integral part of the game. Here, the kickoff will take place on the 25-yard line.
Interestingly, members of the kicking team will line up on the receiving team’s 35-yard line. Blockers will be placed on their own 30-yard line. You can expect more kickoff return touchdowns coming as a result of this formation.
These rule differences between the XFL and NFL are hugely important. They completely change how a team is structured.Rule #3: Overtime Scoring
The XFL is hoping to avoid overtime as much as possible. If, however, the final bell rings and two teams are tied, the game will look much different than a traditional NFL overtime. Here, both teams will compete for 2-point conversions, somewhat similar to a penalty shootout you see in soccer.
The overtime will be decided in a five-round shootout. Both teams will take turns starting at the opponent’s 5-yard line, attempting to score. If the defensive team recovers the ball during a play, the round is over.
If the defensive team commits a foul, the offense will be moved up to the 1-yard line. Also like football, if a team is mathematically defeated, or unable to win at any certain point, the game will end. Overtime will last a maximum of 27 minutes.
This is the first time this shootout-style of overtime has ever been attempted in football. It’s unclear exactly how fans will respond to this new style.Rule #4: Double-Forward Pass
Most of the rule differences between the XFL and NFL have to do with gameplay. The officiating and fouls remain largely the same. One of the most interesting new XFL rules has to do with passing. In this league, players are able to pass the ball forward several times, as long as it has not passed the line of scrimmage.
This may be extremely confusing to some fans. In the NFL, only one forward pass is allowed per down. A foul will immediately be given to any team that throws the ball downfield more than once, regardless of where it takes place.
An XFL company statement claims,
“The Double Pass is one of the most exciting plays in football and the XFL aims to add excitement while maintaining traditional football.”What’s The Difference
For longtime NFL players now competing in the XFL, this may be a tough rule to get used to.
This is another one that will significantly change how the game is played. A tight end or wide receiver with an ability to throw will be hugely valuable in this league.

After all, stranger things have happened. However, the story kept heating up.
On October 8 I was provided various log files of tournaments that POTRIPPER played. Many were in formats that were unreadable, but I was able to view the details of a tournament played on September 13. In that tournament POTRIPPER played 41 hands, with an average of six players at the table. Assuming all players were equally skilled and played the same way, and I admit that is a big assumption, he would expect to win 7.28 hands. The number of hands he actually won was 25. That is 7.29 standard deviations above expectations. The probability of doing that well or better is 1 in 6.6 trillion. Again, assuming equal skill and strategy of all the players involved. It would be 469,000 times easier to win a 6/49 lottery. So my eyebrows were officially raised. However, I was still concerned that it could have been due to chip dumping by other players. That is a common way to steal a player?s money if you get a hold of his login and password, for example with a key logger. While this is a serious problem, it is outside of my purview of casino-involved foul play.
The next significant event was on October 15, when I was made aware of an animated playback of another tournament POTRIPPER played. This tournament is posted at pokerxfactor.com. The link is password protected, but signing up for access is easy. Surprisingly, this playback shows the cards of every player. Supposedly, Absolute Poker gave the player CRAZYMARCO this file when he made accusations of cheating by POTRIPPER. The file was in a garbled Excel format, and it took some time to clean it up, so that the playback feature at pokerxfactor.com could read it. Still, some hands, and events within hands, are slightly out of order. However, it is still fairly easy to follow the event of each hand. It is surprising to me that Absolute Poker provided this file, because in my opinion it is the bloody glove this case needed to make a case for something more sinister than chip dumping.
Although there are 130 hands in the playback, only the first 93 show all player cards. Suddenly, on hand 94, it is a different tournament, and only the cards of CRAZYMARCO are shown, unless other players were forced to show. Comments: My own brief synopsis
Of these 93 hands, POTRIPPER won 56 times, in an average 8.13 players per hand. Assuming all players are equally skilled you would expect 11.49 wins. POTRIPPER was 14.03 standard deviations above expectations. The probability of luck this good or better is 1 in 1.88 × 1044. It would be easier to buy a 6/49 lottery ticket in six different states, and hit the jackpot all six times. Still, could it still just be chip dumping, or playing very bad players? The playback, in my opinion, shows otherwise.
Hand after hand POTRIPPER?s play is consistent with that of a player who had knowledge of every player?s hole cards. The majority of hands show POTRIPPER bluffing at just the right times when his opponents were weak. Yet, when he was hopelessly outmatched, even with good cards, he laid them down. For example, in hand 80, he had king-queen off-suit but folded pre-flop against a player with pocket aces. This coming from a player who called, checked, or in most cases raised, pre-flop 89% of the time. When POTRIPPER was bluffed, he usually would omnisciently reraise.Absolute Poker Online Poker
POTRIPPER had decision-making ability at the river 16 times, and he won all 16 of those times. When he had the best hand, he always raised. When he didn?t he either folded or bluffed against a weak opponent. Never once did he call on the river.
If you know poker, it is almost impossible to watch the playback and have any doubt that something is terribly fishy. If POTRIPPER could indeed see the other players’ cards, he seemed to be rubbing this ability in their faces. There is no camouflage, or smoothing things over, at all. Even his handle betrays what he is doing. As they say, you can shear a sheep many times, but you can only slaughter it once. This was not a lesson POTRIPPER evidently learned, as he slaughtered the other players with a meat cleaver in a bloody mess.
The story doesn’t end here. The hand history file that Absolute Poker gave to CRAZYMARCO indicates lots of information usually unknown to the player, including the e-mail and IP address of those watching. As told in the bulletin boards, and in New York Times blog, one of the lurkers had an address that matched those of an alleged part-owner of Absolute Poker named Scott Tom. I won?t even get into this angle, but it is well discussed at all the poker bulletin boards.
On October 17 Absolute related a statement, which is posted at the New York Times Freakonomics blog, that they are taking the allegations seriously, and have hired Gaming Associates, a third-party auditor, to conduct an investigation. This statement is conveniently missing from the list of press releases listed at their own web site.Absolute Poker Online
I’m always one to give both sides a chance to be heard. I also make no claims that the evidence provided to me was not tampered with, for example cherry-picking hands that made the best case. So once the results of this investigation are completed, I will be happy to post them here. Just 5 days prior to the announcement, Legend of Gambling made claims about live streamer and N1 Casino affiliate Roshtein that questioned the streamer’s honesty.
The alleged offence arose during one of Roshtein’s live streams on the Twitch platform. Roshtein was asked to during the stream to prove that he was not playing in demo mode. Roshtein obliged by exiting the slot he was playing (“Gonzo’s Quest”) before opening up another in demo mode in order to highlight the difference between the two.
This topic was discussed at great length on the Casinomeister Forums and covered at Casino Gazette.
Below you can see a screenshot that highlights how much money was in Roshtein’s account during his real money play on “Gonzo’s Quest”.
Then Roshtein chose to open Play ‘n Go’s “Rise of Merlin” but only did so for a matter of seconds. This is where the controversy arose. The balance that Roshtein had on display during “Gonzo’s Quest” was, as you can see, sitting at 22,113.10 Euros and when he opened up “Rise of Merlin” in demo mode the balance, as you can see below, was exactly the same.
What makes this confusing is that a real money balance should not have transferred over into the demo game. I would go as far as to say that I have never heard of this happening to anyone before. All demo games give the player a large amount of imaginary cash to play around with, but the number is normally a very round one, like 25,000 Euros, not an amount as specific as 22,113.10 Euros.
The publication of the story sparked massive interest on the Casinomesiter forums, with some of the more vocal participants calling out N1 Casino and Roshtein himself, asking for an explanation.
A response from N1 Casino was forthcoming with an apparent representative for the casino, stating that:
“…roshtein playing with real money at N1 casino. And from what I know – it’s impossible to somehow show play money and real money. At least at N1.”
When pressed further they went on to say in relation to the accusation:
“I do not know and to be honest not really interested to spend my time investigating it. I know that there is no fake money with Roshtein, and I can prove it to any regulator / judge if needed. It’s simple fact.
As for the thread – I think even such amount of posts shows how Roshtein is popular and even bad PR is still PR. Or not, I do not know, and honestly I think I can leave it to him personally.
What I should care about – N1 casino. And as a representative of this brand here – I confirm that all his transactions is real.”
Despite the assertions made by the N1 rep there were still those on the forum calling out for more than just confidence in the legitimacy of Roshtein’s play, with calls for real evidence being asked for on more than one occasion.Slots Streaming
Before continuing I want to be clear that no one at the ThePogg is passing direct comment on the Roshtein and Legends of Gambling story specifically. However, when we consider the “slots streaming” community more generally some basic maths should have us all questioning whether these individuals are genuinely risking the funds their videos would have you believe they risk.
The first issue to note has to be the size of the bet that many of these streamers play with. 10, 20, even 50 Euros or Pounds a spin will, when they trigger a win, generate hugely impressive numbers. But they can also quickly result in losses of tens if not hundreds of thousands. The short term variance at these stakes can be huge. By selectively highlighting the sections of the streamer’s play where large wins occur on the videos posted to sites like YouTube, viewers can quickly end up with a significantly skewed perspective of the likelihood of winning.
But this leads to the next question – if streamers like Roshtein are playing with real funds, how much are they actually losing to generate these wins that they showcase?
While we cannot comment on any individual’s specific experience the RTP figures that are provided by most software providers today provides and effective yardstick to draw some conclusions about expected loss rates. The longer someone plays – and these streamers are effectively professional players – the more likely it is the player’s results will gravitate towards the mathematically expected return rates. Whether the bets you make are big or small the house will always have the edge and as such if you lay bets as weighty as the ones that certain streamers highlight then it’s very likely you are going to lose a lot of money and quite probable that you are going to do so very quickly.Roshtein in Numbers
Using the Roshtein example, I popped onto his streaming thread while preparing this article and made a 1min video of his play which you can see below:
During that video I count 25 spins at a value of 16EUR. So that’s 25×60 = 1500 spins/hour and a total wager of 1500×16 = 24000EUR wagered. The game played was NetEnt’s Vikings. This game has a House Advantage of 3.37%. So the average expected loss per hour playing at this rate is 24000×0.0337 = 808.80EUR!
A quick Google search for how much streaming time Roshtein engages over the course of a week give us the following answer:
So if we say he plays 12 hours a day 4 days a week that’s 12x4x4 = 192 hours/month and an average loss of 192×808.80 = 155289.60EUR per month.
It could be argued that streamer’s do not always play at this speed, so maybe the figure’s lower than this. Perhaps, but given that the top 10 videos that came up when we searched ‘Roshtein’ in YouTube 6 out of 10 featured him wagering at 50EUR/spin and another showed 40EUR/spin (only one showed a bet lower than then one we saw at 10EUR/spin), it seems more than reasonable to conclude that our above estimate of expected losses could well be on the conservative side. We’ve also been conservative by going with only 4 days per week of play and counting exactly 28 days in the month. So we’ve built in a lot of tolerance to our figure in an effort to account for variation in play levels.
Slots streamers are affiliates – they make their money by referring depositing players to casino operators. We’ve been in the business a long time and for any affiliate of a decent size you can quickly figure out the average value you are seeing returned for each player. Even if we gave a fairly optimistic estimate of a value of 100EUR/player, that still leaves Roshtein having to refer 1552 player/month just to break even. We don’t know many affiliates that could sustain this type of overhead and remain profitable. ThePOGG would be short of achieving a break even point by a VERY long way if we needed 1.5k player registrations per month.

So what are the possible explanations for streamers who play at this level? As far as we can see there are 3.
i) The streamers are independently wealthy and simply using the affiliate referrals to offset their losses somewhat. I would question the likelihood of this. It seems unlikely that someone with a large bank balance is going to want to spend time filming themselves playing video slots for such extended periods of time.
ii) These streamer are quickly going to bankrupt their businesses as it seems almost certain they will be losing large amounts of money playing this way.
iii) Losses are being offset for streamers significantly by the casino operators.
For our money i) and ii) simply don’t seem likely. That leaves iii). Operators could be offsetting these specific streamer’s losses in a variety of ways. The funds in their accounts could simply be ‘dead money’ – a balance that is put in an account that the streamer knows can never be withdrawn. Perhaps they receive a lot of bonus funds to top-up the balances they receive. Or maybe they have massive cashback on losses agreements with the operators they are playing with. Regardless of how this is happening, the result is the same – the streamer is effectively not really playing at the stake that the game shows as their downside risk is being significantly offset.
If this is the case then it sets a false precedent, one that many would deem to be immoral, especially at a time when gambling addiction has risen to such prominence within the public consciousness. The illusion that this could create being that anyone can make lots of money playing slots as long as they are willing to bet big. Disclaimers at the end of the videos do not seem to us to remedy the illusion being created by selectively cutting presenting big winning sessions and playing at unrealistic stakes.
The purpose of this article is not to directly accuse any individual of any nefarious actions – perhaps these streamers really are pulling in the player volumes that would account for these losses, or maybe there is some other explanation that we haven’t considered. What we are looking to do is encourage readers to apply some reasoning to how much of what they see on these streams they believe. Foster a healthy sense of scepticism about the wins they see. Hi, i am/was a small streamer on twitch for 2 years and tried or was offered to stream for group of casinos at multiple occasions. A listed odd with a + sign in front of it, such as the +120 in our example above, shows us how much money you would win on a $100 bet. Using the +120 odds, it shows us that a $100 bet on that outcome would pay out $120 in profits. Again this can easily be converted into smaller or larger size bets. A $10 bet on +120 odds would pay out $12 in profits.

There are many different variations of how people play football squares, also known as Super Bowl Squares. Most people play during the Super Bowl, but squares can be played for any other game, or in some cases you can use the same squares for multiple games (Example: NFL Playoffs). *Start with an empty 10 by 10 grid. This will give you 100 Squares that you can let your Users select.
*Now assign one team to the columns, and one to the rows.
*Begin recruiting your Users to join your Football Squares pool. If you use our site to Play Football Squares Online, this will be a much easier process since you can simply email everyone the link to your site and let them choose their squares. If you decide to use a Spreadsheet or Printable Sheet, then this process will take you a lot more time simply because of having to try and share a single sheet or spreadsheet.
*Once all the squares have been filled, it is time to assign the numbers. Randomly assign numbers 0 through 9 to each column, followed by doing the same for each row. Now each square represents a specific score in the game based on the column and row numbers.
*Your Football Squares grid is now complete, and you just need to wait til the game is played to determine who will be your winners. A winner is usually determined at the end of the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and Final Game score. The winner is determined by looking at the last number in each of the teams’ score, and then matching those numbers on the grid and seeing which square intersects those two numbers. If the score at the end of the game is AFC 33, and NFC 24, then the square on the grid that has AFC with number 3, and NFC number 4, would be the winner.
*Payouts for the winners vary depending on your setup, but usually the 1st through 3rd quarter get about 20% of the pot each, and the final score would get the remaining 40%.
